I secured the sublet on my apartment!!! I am so so excited---it’s a guest cottage,
located up in the hills of somewhere, near Highland Park. I say that with all
the confidence of someone who was told where it was, and doesn’t quite get
it. Anywho, LA seems to me to be a bunch
of cute little commercial districts connected by streets filled with a bunch of
strip malls and Hawaiian Chicken fast food joints. I LOVE it!
So, the neighborhood seems very cool, and filled with coffee shops, a
bowling alley and more. I looked at a few other places—but they were all with
roommates, and I didn’t want to deal with that.
This beautiful, light-filled gem has a tiny kitchen, washer/dryer,
dining room, sep bedroom and bath off the living room. It’s painted all white
inside, and is tucked in a little hill, behind the main house (which was built
in 1903 and is on part of the walking tour of the neighborhood.) It’s literally everything I dreamt of—a quiet
little place in nature, where I can feel like life is a little different than
my normal Chicago day-to-day. The
current tenant is a doll, and I got to meet the landlord, too. He took notes, and asked me questions like
“What are you out here for” and “what do you do for work” and said his son was
the one who made him ask those questions. He doesn’t
do leases for his places, and has owned this property since the 70s, and has a
lake house in Oregon that you have to take a boat to! I loved him.
So, it was the most expensive and I’m super-stressed about money---but
it’ll be worth it for a little peace and quiet.
Pickle will love it—there was a skunk under the building and parrots
chirping away and she’ll get lots of sniffing and sleeping.
