Gig!
I did my first uber ride. I was so nervous—I turned on the
“online” (meaning ready for action button) before I was actually in the car and
I had to miss the first ride. The next
one popped in so quickly that I audibly screamed and ran out the door. Thank god pri pri was parked nearby.
My first Uber customer was “Miranda” (her real name) and she
lived just around the corner. Easy so
far! She had her bags and I got out
(Like the good Uber drivers do) and awkwardly helped put her bags in the trunk. I was so nervous—I kept asking questions and
was worried I’d be exposed as a fraud
Me: “Are you going on a trip?”
Miranda: “Huh? Oh yeah, but not until tomorrow”
I fumbled with the app once she was in the car and got the
navigation working.
Me: “Do you have a preferred route or should I follow the
navigation?”
Miranda: “I like to go west than South, but just whatever
the thing says”
Me: “Do you prefer windows or air”
Miranda: “Air is good”
I was too nervous to turn on the radio so I just drove West
and then South to and she wasn’t chatty at all.
And then my brake light went off DRAMATICALLY and I mumbled and said "ha, not sure what's going on with that". And then I got confused on which way to navigate and sort of said "ha, I guess there are a few options on how to go". And then my smartphone device holder failed, and my smartphone device fell to the floor. As my Uncle Tom likes to say, I was a mess,
I dropped her off and wanted to shout “MY FIRST UBER RIDE” but since she wasn't chatty, I didn't want to overstep my boundaries.
